The short version
If you want a night in the Ottawa area that feels like time off rather than a city stopover, this is one of the more complete options on either side of the river. The hotel has held five stars from the Corporation de l'industrie touristique du Québec since 2001 and a CAA-AAA Four Diamond rating since 2002. It sits on water on two sides, it is joined to a theatre and a spa, and parking outside is free. You give up the walk-out-the-door convenience of a downtown Ottawa hotel; in exchange you get quiet, space and the lake.
What works
- The water, all year. Indoor and outdoor pools are heated year-round, and Amerispa adds whirlpools, a steam bath and a sauna. An outdoor pool you can use in January is the single feature guests mention most often in the review summaries we read.
- Everything indoors. Hotel, casino, theatre and conference centre are connected. On a show night in February you never put on a coat.
- A real theatre. Up to 1,100 seats, a programme published more than eleven months ahead, and a box office that opens at noon on show days.
- Room basics done properly. Robes and slippers, hypoallergenic feather pillows, a desk with an ergonomic chair, a mini fridge, coffee and tea, and free Wi-Fi in every category.
- Environmental credentials you can check. BOMA BEST Platinum (2023) and four Green Keys from Green Key Global.
What to watch
- Valet parking is suspended. The hotel's information page has said so "until further notice". Another Loto-Québec page still mentions valet for hotel guests; trust the hotel page and plan to self-park.
- Parking information is not consistent. The hotel lists free outdoor parking. The casino page says indoor and outdoor parking are free. The Quebec and Outaouais tourism listings say indoor parking is paid. We have asked nobody to settle it for us — check on arrival if you want the garage.
- Service is the recurring complaint. KAYAK's summary of 1,020 reviews (read on 29 October 2026) praises the beds, the pool and breakfast, and flags billing errors, slow check-in and slow responses. None of that is unusual for a big hotel tied to a busy venue, but it is worth knowing.
- Room sizes are not published. Neither the hotel nor the tourism listings give square footage for any category.
- Much of the building is adults-only. The hotel and Arôme are open to everyone; the casino, its bars, Banco Bistro, Bouquet and most shows are 18+.
Who it suits
Couples who want a spa afternoon and a show in one trip. Friends travelling for a tribute night who would rather not drive back across the river. Conference and wedding guests — the centre has fourteen modular rooms and more than 50,000 square feet. Visitors to Ottawa with a car, who value free parking and a quiet room over a downtown address.
It suits less well if you want to walk to restaurants every evening, if you need a published room size to decide, or if you are travelling with teenagers who will want to follow you into most of the evening venues.
Against a downtown Ottawa hotel
We will not invent comparisons with named hotels we have not checked. The structural trade-off is simple: downtown Ottawa puts the Parliament, the market and the canal at walking distance; this hotel puts them a short drive or bus ride away and gives you a lake, year-round outdoor water, a theatre and free outdoor parking instead. For a weekend built around a show or the spa, the Gatineau side wins. For a first visit built around museums and government buildings, downtown is easier — although the Canadian Museum of History, across from Parliament on the Gatineau shore, is closer to this hotel than to most Ottawa ones.
What changed in 2026
- Bouquet, a new wine, cocktail and shared-plates restaurant on Level 3 of the casino, lists its opening as 18 November.
- Banco Bistro moved to new hours: closed Monday and Tuesday, open from 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday.
- Le Baccara, once the complex's fine-dining room, no longer appears on the official restaurant list.
- The poolside TGV Snack Bar is closed for the season and "back next summer".
- Valet parking remains suspended.
The bottom line
Book it for the evening, not for the city. Pick the Deluxe or a suite if you can, ask for the lake side, put the spa on the afternoon you arrive and the theatre on the second night. If you would like us to do the asking, use the form below.
