Taken as a whole — casinos, lotteries, betting and online — the world gaming market is put at about US$632.8 billion for 2025, comfortably above its pre-pandemic size. Online is the part that moves fastest: roughly US$107.7 billion this year, on track for around US$133 billion by 2029 at a mid-single-digit annual pace.
The channelling problem
A striking share of online play still happens outside licensed markets: industry estimates suggest only about 22% of global online GGR flows through regulated operators. Pulling that activity into taxed, supervised channels is the shared aim of regulators from Ottawa to Brussels.
